prolonged exposure
(PE)
Prolonged Exposure (PE) is a time-limited, individual, cognitive-behavioral therapy for PTSD. Treatment ranges in duration from 8-15 sessions and is conducted in individual sessions. Prolonged Exposure (PE) therapy has been proven to be one of the most effective treatments for PTSD, with the largest empirical data obtained over the past 20 years. Its efficacy has been demonstrated with multiple populations, including survivors of female sexual assault, physical assault, and childhood sexual abuse, and in various treatment settings such as academic institutions, community mental health centers, and VA clinics (Foa et al., 1999, 2005; Resick, Nishith, Weaver, Astin, & Feuer, 2002; Rothbaum, Astin, & Marsteller, 2005; Schnurr et al., 2007).

EYE MOVEMENT DESENSITIZATION and REPROCESSING
(EMDR)
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is an integrative psychotherapy approach that has been extensively researched and proven effective for the treatment of trauma. EMDR is a set of standardized protocols that incorporates elements from many different treatment approaches. To date, EMDR therapy has helped millions of people of all ages relieve many types of psychological stress.
The amount of time the complete treatment will take depends upon the history of the client. Complete treatment of the targets involves a three pronged protocol (1-past memories, 2-present disturbance, 3-future actions), and are needed to alleviate the symptoms and address the complete clinical picture. The goal of EMDR therapy is to process completely the experiences that are causing problems, and to include new ones that are needed for full health.
"Processing" does not mean talking about it. "Processing" means setting up a learning state which allows experiences currently causing disturbance to be "digested" and stored appropriately in the brain. In other words, what is useful to you from an experience will be learned, and stored, with more appropriate emotions in your brain. This more useful information serves to influence you in healthier ways in the future. Inappropriate emotions, beliefs, and body sensations will be discarded. Negative emotions, feelings, and behaviors are generally caused by unresolved earlier experiences pushing you in the wrong direction(s). The goal of EMDR therapy is to leave you with the emotions, understanding, and perspectives that will lead to healthy and useful behaviors and interactions.

Certified Trainer, Prevention and Relationship Enhancement Program (PREP) 8.0
The PREP approach is a scientifically-based and empirically-tested method of teaching relationship education. It is based on over 30 years of research in the field of relationship health, with much of the research conducted at the University of Denver, and sponsored by the National Institutes of Health.
Using techniques of cognitive-behavioral marital therapy and communication-oriented marital enhancement programs, PREP aims to help couples maintain high levels of functioning and prevent marital problems from developing. Topics covered include communication, conflict management, commitment, friendship, sensuality, problem-solving, and emotional supportiveness, among others. PREP curricula generally contain anywhere from 8 to 14 hours of relationship education content and are usually conducted in a group workshop format.
